Russian rapist-killer pardoned by Putin to fight in Ukraine despite hacking off his victim’s head is jailed again after murdering a 22-year-old woman

A convicted rapist and killer, Tsyren-Dorzhi Tsyrenzhapov, who was freed and pardoned by Vladimir Putin to join the war in Ukraine, has been sent back to jail for the brutal murder of a 22-year-old woman. Previously sentenced for killing and dismembering an 18-year-old woman, Ekaterina Skvortsova, Tsyrenzhapov was released by Putin but went on to kill another woman after his military duty ended.

The Chita District Court sentenced Tsyrenzhapov to 14 years in a maximum security penal colony. He is among the many criminals released into Russian society after serving in Putin’s army, with reports of several committing new crimes. In his earlier case, Tsyrenzhapov threw body parts of his victim into a river and even tossed her severed head from a 12th-floor window.

Children and teenagers discovered the body parts, causing fear and shock in the community. The victim’s mother, Svetlana Skvortsova, described the horrifying experience of identifying her daughter’s dismembered remains in a morgue. She and her ex-husband paid for the body parts to be sewn together for the funeral.

Tsyrenzhapov was released to fight in Ukraine after serving only a portion of his 14-year prison sentence, raising questions about the decision-making process behind such pardons.
