The Court of Appeal in Abuja recently confirmed Julius Abure as the Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), overturning a previous ruling from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court. Last year, Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court issued an order preventing Abure and two others from acting as national officers of the party due to alleged document forgery.
However, in a new judgement delivered by Justice Hamma Barka of the Appellate Court, the ruling of the High Court was reversed. The Appellate Court deemed that the High Court had overstepped its jurisdiction in the matter. Additionally, the court ordered the respondent, Lamidi Apapa, to pay Abure One million Naira in costs.
This decision reaffirms Abure’s position as the Chairman of the LP, ending the legal dispute over his leadership within the party. The Appellate Court’s ruling serves as a significant victory for Abure and highlights the importance of due process in legal proceedings.
